Paczki is the plural form of Paczek – the Polish word for a Polish doughnut. The history of paczki began with French chefs who came to Poland and brought doughnut recipe with them. After time with gradual changes, the Polish have their famous Paczki. Do you wonder why they make so many Paczki? The reason is they must use all the lard, sugar, eggs and fruit available before Lent – a time for fasting.
In Poland, paczki are eaten on Fat Thursday (the last Thursday before Lent). Many Polish Americans celebrate PÄ…czki Day on Fat Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday).
